There’s a disturbance in gay celeb land this morning after Dustin Lance Black took to twitter to tell Sam Smith to stop texting his partner Tom Daley.

The demand came after Sam Smith seemingly snubbed Dustin during his Oscar acceptance speech in which he had said that no other openly gay person had won an oscar. A statistic he attributed to Sir Ian McKellen.

Sam Smith last night won “Best Song”,  for his 007 effort: Writing’s On The Wall.

However a number of openly gay people have won at the Oscars, and indeed at least four have won in his category including Sir Elton John, Stephen Sondheim and Howard Ashman and Melissa Etheridge won an Oscar for her song, I Need To Wake Up, from An Inconvenient Truth in 2006.

Sir Elton won his Oscar for “The Lion King’s” Can You Feel The Love Tonight in 1994, which he shares with Tim Rice. Stephen Sondheim won an Oscar for his song “Sooner Or Later (I Always Get My Man)” in 1990 from the film “Dick Tracy”.

Dustin Lance Black, who won Best Screen Writer for 2009’s Milk biopic about Harvey Milk took to twitter to suggest that Sam stay away from Tom to whom he is engaged to be married, if he couldn’t remember who he was.

“Time top stop texting my fiancé” were the final words of the tweet, which linked to Dustin’s acceptance speech for Milk.

Sam Smith misquoted Sir Ian McKellen in his acceptance speech, who actually said that no openly gay man has ever won “Best Actor”.
