A Syrian boy has been murdered by the so-called Islamic State after being accused of having a relationship with an older ISIS officer in Deir ez-Zor, Syria.
The officer has reportedly been demoted from his office and was spared execution.
The execution took place in front of a large crowd, who looked on as the teenager plummeted to his death. This is the first report of an execution of a gay person by so-called Islamic State in 2016. Last year it has been calculated that over 30 men were killed because of their sexuality.
In the past, if victims have not died on impact after their fall, on lookers stone them to death.
A local media activist who witnessed the killing told Syrian news agency ARA,
“The horrific execution took place in front of a large crowd,”
“The boy was accused of being engaged in a homosexual relation with the prominent ISIS officer”
“Abu Zaid was forced to leave Syria and join the fighting fronts in northwestern Iraq. The decision has been taken by the ISIS leadership”.
