“A parody of what real woman is, like blackface”
Embed from Getty ImagesSharron Davies is taking heat on social media after likening drag to blackface. The former athlete, taking to Twitter, asked if anyone else was fed up of drag shows before stating that drag was a “parody of a real woman” before likening it to the wholly unacceptable practice of blackface.
Her tweet quickly found Davies ratio’d as nearly 1600 people took to comment on the tweet, while the tweet received only 360 retweets.
The majority of the tweets were negative towards Davies’ comments, with many criticising her “stereotyping of women” and ‘narrow mindedness”.
The 57-year-old then reeled off a list of what “real women” do including, juggling kids, cooking wholesome food, doing the laundry and other house chores. She also included “holding down a job” dealing with period pains and “leaky boobs” from breastfeeding.
She finished her tweet by telling drag queens to stop with the stereotypes.
“Strong women aren’t threatened by drag queens”
Michelle Visage, judge of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the only Drag show currently broadcasting on mainstream media in the UK (and even then it’s on the digital-only platform BBC 3) hit back at the MBE saying, “or you can see it for what drag actually is, a celebration and homage of all things feminine.
“Strong women aren’t threatened by drag queens but rather empowered by their chutzpah”.
Michelle then added that she had “officially muted” Davies.
DRAG – dressed as a girl which was what Shakespeare put on stage notes for his plays in Tudor times! Some has been swimmer wants some attention maybe!!
We should start a petition to strip the dried up old hag of her MBE
Perhaps she should lighten up, I have no problem with dressing up, drag queens, drag kings, black face or white face. It is the way something is done, if it is not done to cause hatred and offense, what is the f’ing problem…
She’s right ??♂️Drag is an escapist’s fetish, living in a persona for the show. It’s not for everyone. I can’t stand it either, and I’ve probably dated more guys than she has.
Drag is ɴᴏᴛ a parody of women
Going on about period pains, breast feeding •ᵉᵗ.ͨ
sʜᴇ is setting the women’s movement back by centuries
Women pride themselves at looking after children and holding down a job
To go on about leaky boobs and periods, is a disgrace and she is a disgrace
….a bigoted sexist disgrace
While some women have it hard so do men
…there are one parent families with the dad
There are 2 parent families where the men look after the kids
To put us women down as leaky boobs ᵃⁿᵈ period pains paints a dire picture
..wouldn’t like a drag artiste to portray us as them
They celebrate the wonderful side of us when we don’t even see ourselves as wonderful
If they can see us as glamorous and beautiful, (their makeup is ᴡᴀᴀᴀᴀᴀᴀʏ better than mine)
….then that’s all good •n thank you guys
Sharon a word to the wise
…don’t like something don’t watch
You think you are standing up for us
…you aren’t
You are just coming across as sad and bigotted
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ on by
…just keep on walking
