Puerto Rico ATM Prints Anti-Gay Receipt.
An ATM at a bar called El Ocho de Blanco (White On 8) in the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan caused a social media uproar after it issued a receipt with “WE HATE FAGS” printed at the bottom.
The Bar and the ATM provider moved to immediately distanced themselves from the homophobic machine. The bar put a note on its Facebook profile saying it had turned the ATM off and reached out to ATM Mobile Services.
The ATM company’s president Jorge Torres said,
“Someone from the outside gained access to the system and programming of the machine.”
Torres said his company did not intentionally offend the LGBT community and would upgrade its ATM security to make sure nothing like this would happen in the future.
LGBT activist Pedro Julio Serrano, noted on his website that he appreciated the speed at which both the bar and the ATM owners had apologised, but went on to say: “This unfortunate incident is urgent approval of the bill to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in public and private institutions presented Senator Ramón Luis Nieves. This can not continue happening in Puerto Rico.”
