A documentary series following young Brits over a summer in Kavos, Corfu, allows viewers a glimpse of what really happens in the hedonistic party town away from parents and surrounded by temptation, broadcasts the potentially offensive word Faggot.
British broadcaster, Channel 4, has been slammed by some readers of TheGayUK for allowing the broadcast of the word faggot during its brand new documentary What Happens In Kavos.
The incident in which the word was broadcast, was on one of Kavos’s infamous booze cruises, where holiday makers spend €20 for unlimited alcoholic drinks onboard a boat.
During the scene a holiday rep was made to drink his own urine in front of a boatload of passengers because he had slept with one girl more than three times. Drinking your own urine is known as a “forfeit” amongst the holiday reps working in Kavos.
When the man threw up, the onboard MC began calling him a ‘Faggot’ and encourage the boat full of customers to chant the word repeatedly. The terms was used in a derogatory way to shame the rep named Will.
‘I really am disgusted by this What Happens in Kavos program…’ one viewer commented, while another added: ‘Shot of your own p***? Are you a mongrel? #Kavos’
Embarrassing Bodies Doctor Christian Jessen also spoke up over the sexual health implications, saying he was,
‘not shocked at the antics of the kids in Kavos [but] shocked at the GUM doctor.’
’4 swabs for STI test on Kavos?! Ridiculous, dangerous and irresponsible! High risk of urethral structures. I’m cross about this,’
The show is broadcast on Channel 4 on Monday nights and continues next week.
