Ex-Tory MP, Teresa Gorman, who voted against major pro-LGBT laws between 1998 and 2000 has died at the age of 83.
The Tory back bencher and former MP for Billericay, Teresa Gorman, whom the Daily Mail described as a colourful character, but who voted against pro-gay laws has died. She voted against the law that equalised the age of consent between gay and straight people.
Ms. Gorman also voted against 5 other pro-LGBT pieces of legislation including voting no on Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill (January 1999), no on Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill (March 1999) and yes on Local Government Bill [Lords] — Prohibition on promotion of homosexuality: bullying – which was a key component of the Section 28 law.
For a month In February 2000, Ms. Gorman was suspended from the House of Commons for failing to disclose three rented properties in south London and for her failure to register two rented-out Portuguese properties from 1987 to 1999, on the Register of Members Interests.
According to theyworkforyou.com Ms. Gorman voted “consistently” against gay votes between 1998 and 2000, including the major legislation which equalised the age of consent for gay people. In recent years Ms Gorman shifted her allegiance to UKIP and voted for the party in the last general election.
Ms. Gorman was in office from 1987 until 2001.
