In actual fact, it is quite fun and easy to live with. It’s quite spirited when you need it to be or calm.

It’s quite a characterful little car and I wasn’t expecting that. The 1.2 petrol engine is a hoot and feels alive at most speeds. Even fast motorway work was done with ease. Gone are the days when small French Citroën’s had to be flogged to get anywhere.
The engine is attached to a very capable chassis and the handling encourages fun in a safe manner that seems to lift the whole dowdy feel you think of when looking at small SUVs. This and the engine made for an engaging combination. Something I could not say for the C3 hatchback we tested in 2017.
