A court has ruled that a gay bar in Brighton must install an ID scanner if it is to stay open until 4AM.
One of Brighton’s oldest gay bars has been told it must install ID scanners in a bid to curb underage drinking a court has ruled – the first ruling in the UK that affects a gay venue.
The court ruled that the pub, which had faced closure after the police asked for a review on its drinks license after numerous incidents, could stay open until 1AM Monday to Thursday and until 3AM on Friday and Saturday. The venue itself must close by 4AM.
TheGayUK contacted the Bulldog’s management team to ask how they would deal with data collected from ID scanners and what precautions would be taken to ensure that personal data collected from IDs is protected.
Last year a 37-year-old man was glassed in the face in the Bulldog Tavern.
