Just 3.3 million people were reported to have watched Lord Lloyd Webber’s talent search for Jesus in the series finale of Superstar on Wednesday night, in which theatre crooner Ben Forster was hailed the winner.
Previous talent search shows from the musical impressario like: I’d Do Anything, Any Dream Will Do and Over The Rainbow all garnered audience figures over 6 million on rival channel BBC1, hinting that perhaps the format has grown tired or people hadn’t connected with the contestants or the panel.
However, this morning, the Sun is reporting that ITV bosses want to:
‘…snap up Dawn French for other TV roles after she proved to be a runaway hit on Superstar.’
Despite Dawn’s lack of experience as a judge, it appears that the heads of entertainment at the broadcaster are keen to harness French’s ‘wit and warmth’ said a source from ITV adding, ‘Despite being new to this, she played an absolute blinder. Watch out David Walliams!’
Ben Forster, 31, from Sunderland, will now join Melanie C, Tim Minchin and Chris Moyles on the Superstar Arena Tour. He took to Twitter on Wednesday to say:
‘Thank you ! Thank you! Thank you!! You have made my dreams come true tonight!! Ur support has been amazing!!! Love u all!’
The arena tour kicks off in London’s O2 on the 21st September.
